Inside Sales Representative

Rapid Steel is proud to be a leading force in the NYC Steel Industry since 1980. We are currently in need of an Inside Sales Representative to help meet our increased demand. Due to the demanding and in office nature of this position we will only be considering local candidates.
What You’ll Do
Inside Sales & Customer Support:
Answer and manage incoming sales calls with a friendly, solutions-oriented approach.
Prepare quotes, process orders, and handle invoicing accurately and efficiently.
Complete weekly assigned sales reach-outs to existing and prospective customers with consistent effort in expanding your customer base.
Follow up on open quotes and ensure customers always feel supported and informed.
Keep customer notes and sales updates organized in our system so the whole team stays connected.
Team Collaboration & Strategy:
Work closely with other departments—operations, warehouse, fabrication, and marketing—especially during the Fall Busy Season or when additional coverage is needed.
Partner regularly with marketing and management to share customer insights, marketing material needs for better customer service, and customer outreach strategies to grow the customer base, provide better service, and strengthen long-term retention.
Attend meetings with prospective clients or workshops to align on customer needs, growth strategies, and upcoming initiatives when necessary.
Relationship Building:
Contribute ideas and feedback that help us better serve customers and improve their experience.
Support occasional customer success stories, testimonials, or content collaboration when helpful.
Represent Rapid Steel with a positive and professional tone in all interactions.

Essential Experience & Skills (Required)
Proven Communication Skills: Must communicate clearly and confidently, both verbally (over the phone) and in writing (email).
Customer Relationship Focus: Demonstrated history of building and maintaining strong customer relationships, prioritizing loyalty and retention over quick sales, and proactive efforts in creating additional business.
Process Efficiency: Proficiency in basic sales processes (quoting, order entry, invoicing) and comfort using a CRM system (Customer Relationship Management) for logging activities and managing pipelines.
Problem-Solving: Ability to listen to a customer's need and present a logical, solutions-oriented approach.
Business Development Focus: Must be driven to cultivate new client relationships outside of existing demand and demonstrate a history of turning prospects into loyal accounts through consistent, strategic communication.
Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within a small team structure and communicate efficiently with cross-departmental partners (Warehouse, Fabrication).
Technical & Educational Foundations (Highly Desired)
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Business, Marketing, Communications, or Construction Management or 3+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or a construction-related sales environment.
Basic Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with common construction/industrial terminology or a strong aptitude and willingness to quickly learn steel product types (e.g., pipe schedules, plate gauges, structural shapes).
Software Proficiencies: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Quickbooks, and Google Drive for basic reporting and data management.
Schedule, Benefits & Support
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 AM- 4 PM with occasional Saturdays required during the busy Fall season.
Salary: At Rapid Steel we offer a competitive salary with opportunity for raises and advancement and bonuses based on performance.
Benefits: Health Insurance: We cover approximately 70% of your health insurance costs after 90 days.
Retirement Bonus Program: After three full years of service, you become eligible for our annual April retirement bonus program, with all of your previous time at the company counting toward that valuable benefit.
PAID TIME OFF: 5 paid PTO/Sick days and 2 weeks of paid vacation
After five years of employment (with your previous time with the company counting towards that total), you will receive an additional week of Paid Time Off.
